Synopsis:

One calm Friday evening as Eve waits for her partner Charlie to come home for a quiet night in a mysterious family knocks on her door. Their father claims he used to live in the house and would like to show his family.

Relunctantly Eve agrees and the madness that follows after is a wild and spooky ride.

This book lived up to the hype for me and exceeded my expectations. It was the perfect book to celebrate spooky season.

From the beginning of the story this sense of dread and foreboding starts and doesn’t let up til the end. The pacing was immaculate. And I felt all the thrills, chills, and spooks. Plus it totally blew 🤯 my mind and has me contemplating EVERYTHING.

Highly recommend to add this book to your spooky season TBR.

I didn’t expect to care about British Naval seamen as they set out on a mission to intercept and attack a Spanish galleon to retrieve the bounty it carried but alas I was hooked.

Grann’s ability to write about historical events in a captivating and engaging way allows you to immerse yourself in these events and become invested in the outcome.

The revelations about human nature under extreme trial and the psychological changes that occur when basic needs are threatened such as food, water and shelter. How easy it can be to slip into a savage and barbaric mindset.

How an empire’s lustful desire for power launched a wild campaign that ended in little victory.

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel and looking forward to reading more from David Grann in the future.
